Leadership Blindspots?

We all have blind spots. They are part of the human condition. But when leaders and people in authority have blind spots, it matters. The more power a person wields, the more lives are affected their decisions. Blind spots impaired decisions making.
From a physiological perspectives, a blind spot is an area on the retina lacking the receptors that respond to light. If an image falls onto this area it will not be seen.

In psychology, the term is used metaphorically. It is based on the notion that there are parts of ourselves that are simply do not wish to see even though they are apparent to those who knows us. 

Popular model of blind spots is known as Johari's Window (Luft,J. and Ingram,H. 1955)

 Joseph Luft and Harry Ingram contructed a four-box model based upon "what we know about ourselves" and "what others know about us".

In this model the blind spot refers to an aspect of our personality that is not known to self but apparent to others. For example, others may notice that i lack eye contact when talking to people. I however may be completely unaware of this. It is only through the process of receiving feedback that the blind spot can be addressed. I become aware of my lack of eye contact and change my behavior.

In effect, the blind spot is reduced through learning.

Young and in debt

Today many youngsters are caught in debt and most of the people among 20-40s are caught in financial downfall due to lack of knowledge on managing financial, overspend money, and most of them are caught in debt because of credit card usage. Credit card will be the biggest mistake of your life if you not use it wisely or manage it properly. Most of the youngsters prefer to choose the longer loan periods of purchasing a vehicle and most of these youngsters are still unemployed and still asking money from their parents. The longer the loan periods, the higher the interest payment would be. Usually, most of the peoples are only looking at the cost of buying a vehicle instead of looking or analyzing the hidden cost behind it such as maintenance, consumption of petrol, cost of the spare part and so on. Sometimes the expensive vehicle is worthy to buy because it gives lower maintenance cost but sometimes the spare parts is hard to find and costly. So, think wisely before you buy a vehicle.

Most people wasting their money towards something useful but not in much priority such as vehicle, phones, make up (for women), personal accessory and others. Of course vehicle is important for us to move from one place to the other place easily, but my advice please review your financial situation either it is suitable or not for you to purchase that thing yet and think whether the thing you want to buy is important or not. For example, if you live in Kuala Lumpur and your house is just in front of the KTM station, and your working place is also near to the station or in the other word near to public transportations station, and the road is everyday packed with vehicle. So what do you choose? To buy a car or keep your money until your financially stable then you buy a good vehicle for your own satisfaction? Below is the article taken from NST

GETTING the keys to your first car, buying a piece of designer wear and furnishing a new service apartment are proud moments for any youngster, however, the urge to splurge can quickly lead to financial downfall. It has been shockingly revealed that 41 Malaysians aged between 25 and 44 have been declared bankrupt daily for the past five years, making it a total of 38,357 bankrupt individuals in 65 months.

The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) chief executive officer Mohamed Akwal Sultan says the number of young adults seeking advice is high.

"During the economic slowdown last year, more than 3,000 people were coming to AKPK for consultation and advice on a monthly basis. Almost 50 per cent of them were between 30 to 40 years old, and 15 per cent were in their 20s."

Financial problems for young people are generally sparked off by two things -- cars and credit cards.

"The main problem with youngsters, for example when it comes to purchasing cars, is that they overlook other cost factors attached to a car such as insurance, toll, parking and maintenance of the vehicle. Car buyers need to look beyond monthly instalments of the vehicle concerned.

"Many youngsters are opting to finance the vehicles purchased for longer loan periods and many decide to change their cars after five years or so. Some may even change the vehicle earlier as well.
